Happy Birthday, Frederic Bastiat

My favorite frenchman was born on this day back in 1801. Here's what he wrote about "legal plunder" in his wonderful essay, The Law:

But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime.

Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law -- which may be an isolated case -- is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system.

Woops! Too late.

James,
Guess what? We just ordered the piano tuning course! :) We got a real piano the day before I left for the states... I'm so excited to get back home and start.
I still have to catch up on what you've posted on Apricotpie... hopefully I'll get to soon!

Congratulations!
I expect you will find this course as enjoyable and rewarding as I have.

I hope I will!

... a friend posted this the other day on Facebook and I thought it was funny and that you'd enjoy it. Maybe you've already seen it:

"Modern Green Eggs and Ham."
I do not like this Uncle Sam,
I do not like his health care scam.
I do not like these dirty crooks,
Or how they lie and cook the books.

I do not like when Congress steals,
I do not like their secret deals.
I do not like this speaker Nan,
I do not like this 'YES, WE CAN!'

I do not like this spending spree
I'm smart; I know that nothing's free.
I do not like your smug replies,
When I complain about your lies.

I do not like this kind of hope.
I do not like it --- nope, nope, nope!
