In Germany the Nazis first came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.
In America, the progressives first went after the billionaires,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a billionaire.
Then they went after the millionaires,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a millionaire.
Then they went after the Wall Street CEOs,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Wall Street CEO.
Then they went after those who made more than $250,000,
and I didn't speak up because I didn't make $250,000.
Then they went after me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Anonymous: I would disagree with the "No" and agree with the rest of your statement. The fundamental differences between Communists and Nazis (and other fascists) are small and overrated, and most American politicians who are not progressives still tend to accept the premises of the left (like taxing more from the rich).
My larger point is that both philosophies are just variations of Statism: belief in an almighty government and a convenient enemies list.
